Dose calculation: em.SIM simulator to be used in interventional radiology in 2015

Posted on 15 July 2014

CEA LIST delivered the em.SIM simulator to esprimed in October 2013 for use in managing ionizing radiation risk in interventional radiology.

In 2014 the demonstrator system underwent reliability testing in clinical conditions. In parallel, new features were developed, in particular to determine the doses received by practitioners.
A truly innovative calculation tool, em.SIM offers a faithful representation of an interventional radiology treatment room and enables the exact doses received by the patient and practitioner to be determined and optimised.

em.SIM provides the patient with dose cards and peak skin doses and, following some recent enhancements, can also estimate in real time practitioner eye and heart doses.

This virtual reality simulator is being scaled up for rollout. In 2015 the tool will position esprimed to perform dosimetric reconstitution calculations for treatment centers and train professionals on radiology-related risks.
