Partnership signed with Landauer to assess eye-lens exposure dosimeters

France’s national metrology lab for ionizing radiation, LNHB (Laboratoire national Henri-Becquerel) will test a new individual dosimeter developed by partner Landauer to measure local eye-lens equivalent doses.

LNHB created a testing protocol that complies with standard IEC 62387 for radiation protection instrumentation. The tests will be carried out in 2015.

Landauer’s new dosimeter will provide a solution to the new International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) recommendations to reduce the annual eye-lens exposure threshold for radiation workers from 150 mSv to 20 mSv. The recommendation means that overall exposure measurements for the entire body cannot be extrapolated to the eye lens, creating a market need for specific dosimeters, which must be tested.
